Building a culture of compliance within your institution can be difficult, but it's one of the most important things you can do to ensure your Enterprise Risk Management program is comprehensive, effective, and efficient.
On April 3rd, the Virginia Bankers Association will be hosting their annual Compliance School for compliance officers and managers in the area. This event will last for four full days, and is packed with presenters focused on everything from general topics like how to best implement regulatory changes to talks about specific regulations (Truth in Lending Act, UDAAP, Fair Housing Act, Military Lending Act, and many others).
Cynthia Boehmer, Compliance Supervisor for WolfPAC, will be presenting as well, on Monday, April 3rd:
Building a Culture of Compliance, and the Three Lines of Defense
Given that risk is woven into the fabric of every bank, it is imperative that a culture of compliance be thriving within the institution. Moving beyond just checking the box, the most effective insitutions ensure the business units, risk management/compliance, and internal audit work together successfully. When performing well, these Three Lines of Defense increase communication, remove inefficiencies, and promote risk ownership at all levels of the bank. In this presentation, we will be discussing best practices for fostering a culture of compliance, as well as how to tighten the integration between the Three Lines of Defense.
